ATE-240 Defense Advising for Practitioners

ATE 240, Defense Advising for Practitioners offers key knowledge and skills for institution building advisors, and those engaging in training and education delivery to partner officials, to impart strategies and tools to effectively support partners in the development of the professionalization and modernization of their defense institutions.

After an initial mapping of ICB guidance and definitions, the course will empower ICB implementers to constructively navigate both U.S. and partner dynamics and gain access to individuals, information on processes and systems, and insights on approaches and mindsets. In this 24-hour virtual instructor-led training, participants will also gain insights on how to position the ideas that constitute their advice in a manner that support both U.S. and partner objectives and interests. The course empowers advisors to develop rapport with key stakeholders, take a learning stance to understand existing systems and identify gaps collaboratively with key partner stakeholders, identify ideas for change that are viable in the partner context, develop a plan toward change with partner officials, and support the early phases of implementation of a new process, approach, or procedure.

At the end of the course, students will have opportunities to achieve an 80% or better on the final multiple-choice assessment. In addition, participants are asked to complete the course evaluation at the end of the course to provide valuable feedback on course design, content, and instruction.
